Bubbles of Love
Krisbees x Wiradjuri Wave / Blak Bubl
Bubbles of Love is a special swimwear collaboration between Krisbees and Wiradjuri Wave / Blak Bubl, created with First Nations Australian artist Peta-Joy. This design brings together culture, colour, body confidence, and pride. It celebrates identity. It celebrates joy. It celebrates people who have been told to stay quiet, small, or invisible, choosing instead to stand proudly in who they are.
About the Artist
Peta-Joy grew up surrounded by creativity, culture, and storytelling. She lived with her great grandmother, who played an important role in encouraging her artistic path. As a child, Peta-Joy painted with her great grandmother and developed an early love of art. Her great aunt, who painted still life, also inspired her creative journey. So did Australian animals, landscapes, culture, and the stories she grew up with.
Peta-Joy originally dreamed of becoming a marine biologist. With encouragement from her great grandmother, she later followed a creative path through art, music, film, Aboriginal arts, and cultural practices, beginning her studies in 1997. Her work became her own interpretation of Australian animals, landscapes, goannas, cultural memory, and lived experience.
A Creative History
Peta-Joy's art has appeared across many forms. One of her first major statement pieces was a collection of mini hockey sticks painted for the Australian women's hockey team during the 1997 World Cup. Since then, she has painted close to 100 hats over three years, painted Sydney Swans football boots, recreated the Sydney Swans logo, and designed jerseys for local AFL clubs including the Balmain Tigers. Her work carries story, movement, sport, place, humour, and pride.
The Meaning Behind "Bubbles of Love"
The name Bubbles of Love comes from Peta-Joy's personal connection to the word bubl. Growing up, she understood bubl as a common word for "bum," without initially knowing the deeper terminology and history behind it. For this collaboration, the word is reclaimed with humour, affection, and pride.
Bubbles of Love celebrates body confidence, First Nations Australian identity, and the joy of taking language, culture, and self-expression back into your own hands. It is bold. It is cheeky. It is loving. And yes, it celebrates a great bum.
Why This Collaboration Matters
Krisbees x Wiradjuri Wave / Blak Bubl is more than a swimwear collaboration. It brings together two creative communities that know what it feels like to be judged, excluded, or told to make themselves smaller. For Peta-Joy, this design carries culture, humour, family, and pride. For Krisbees, it celebrates self-expression, body confidence, and the freedom to show up exactly as you are.
That is what makes Bubbles of Love special. It is playful, but it has meaning. It is cheeky, but it has heart. And it is made to be worn proudly.
